about

Dogs. You can say a lot about them. They’re expensive to keep and care for. They’re a lot of work. They tie you down. That’s all true. What is also true is that you will never, ever have a better friend in your life than a dog with which you have established a caring bond. I had the pleasure and privilege to live with a Dobermann dog for almost ten years. Yes, there was the expense, work and tie down to deal with. But, you know, I wouldn’t have traded those years with him for anything. And that’s the truth. I wrote this song to illustrate the lighter side of dog ‘ownership’ but also to pass along a few doggie truths. Dog owners will already know what I’m talking about. If you’ve never lived with a good dog, then you just might find this educational as well as fun. In any case, I hope you enjoy this little paean to the noble family we know as canines. And, if you are moved to do so, please feel free to bark along.

lyrics

THE DOBERMANN SONG

I’ll bite your bum when you’re on a hike.
I’ll nip your toes when you ride your bike.
I nap anywhere that I like ‘cause I’m a Dobermann.

I’ll break the fence when you’re counting sheep.
I’ll lick your nose if you start to weep.
I hunt mini-vans in my sleep ‘cause I’m a Dobermann.

People think I’m scary ‘cause I bark so loud
But really I’m affectionate and sweet.
I just have a talent to disperse a crowd
When all I’m really wanting is a tasty treat.

I’ve got your back when you’ve got to fight.
I’ll stick with you through your darkest night.
I’ll stay put when the cat takes flight ‘cause I’m a Dobermann.

I’m by your side when the odds look bad.
You’ve got my paw when life makes you sad.
With me loyalty ain’t no fad ‘cause I’m a Dobermann.
