about

Scotland is a special place. I lived there once; it has a feeling I haven’t perceived anywhere else I’ve ever been. I’m sure there is a combination of factors at work but this is not the time or place to go into a lengthy monologue about all that. I doubt I could get it across just using words anyway. Instead I’m offering a song that I hope will at least serve as an introduction to the soul of this wonderful country that sits perched on the northern tip of Britain.

lyrics

Hearts Of Scotland

Many’s the time and many’s the year I’ve been this wide world ‘round.
Fate has dealt me sorrow and pain while the joys of life I’ve found.
The cities’ lights, the road’s delights have all laid claims on me.
But, in the end, I’ll tell you, friend, it’s here I want to be.

And the clouds over Scotland rise above the Campsie Fells
And the winds that sweep Ben Lomond cry out like hounds from hell.
Yet tonight the hearts of Scotland beat as one ‘neath breasts that swell
With the pride of island people as pure as crystal bells,
As pure as crystal bells.

Many’s the night and many’s the dawn I’ve found myself alone.
Friends and foes were clung to the depths while the maids had all gone
home.
The flint grey morn was barely born when I was called away.
‘Twas then I knew, as true is true, just where I had to stay.
