about

We’ve all heard the expression ‘Laughter is the best medicine’. I don’t know if that’s true all the time but it’s certainly an indispensable commodity when dealing with many of life’s difficult situations, especially those concerning one’s health. I’ve been a heart patient since 2002 when Mean Old Mr. Angina came knocking at my door – in fact he almost broke the darned thing down. I wrote this song to help me deal with my situation and I hope it will help others who find themselves in the same or a similar boat.

Don’t get me wrong. I am painfully aware that heart disease is a very serious condition. That’s why I feel you have to call on everything at your disposal to deal with it. In this case I’m calling on humor and music.

lyrics

CORONARY HEART DISEASE

When I was but a lad I used to have the best of fun.
I’d run about, do as I pleased from dawn to setting sun.
But recently I got the news that I must now refrain
If I am to avoid the most excruciating pain ‘cause

I’ve got coronary heart disease – no loud noises, if you please!
I’ll be on my way to a slightly premature judgement day –
If I ain’t careful!
I don’t wish to make you ill at ease but do ring the medics if I sneeze.
If you hesitate, I’ll soon be pounding on them pearly gates!

I’ve got coronary heart disease – no more bacon; hold that cheese!
And those sausages will only bring condolence messages
And lots of flowers.
I don’t wish to make you ill at ease but do pay attention when I wheeze.
It could be the one that sees me settin’ with that settin’ sun.

Well, I hear tell I could go to hell if I don’t mind what I do.
Well, I feel swell but I know darn well I could be there in advance of you.
