In days of old when nights were cold the people would snuggle their stock.
The farmer hugged his bovine bunch, the shepherd his fuzzy little flock.
But now these days we are less than fazed by the bite of the frost of the season.
We’re flush with joys so let’s not be coy.
Here’s mine and you know I ain’t teasin’.

I’m an avocado aficionado, a devotee of that delightful fruit.
Some may prefer a mango before they twirl their tango
But about this practice I could give a hoot.
At night on the veranda I simply cannot stand a pomegranate salad
Or fig puree.
For I’m an avocado aficionado and I’ll crow about it every single day.

I’m also a tomato appassionato – a cucumber can simply not compare.
To utter them in the same breath is akin to drinking flamed meths
On the walkways that criss-cross old Berkeley Square.
On waking from siesta my thoughts and dreams would fester
Should a rampant quince decide to stride my way.
For I’m an avocado aficionado and I’ll crow about it every single day.

Oh, what would be a holiday without the green goddess upon my plate?
There, split and lashed with vinaigrette with a tot of dry champagne –
I cannot wait.
